Snake in the Grass is a top-down arcade game about mowing lawns under pressure. The concept is deceptively simple: mow every tile, clear every bush. But every yard is full of creatures hiding in those bushes: squirrels, frogs, turtles, the occasional raccoon. Harmless, kind of cute. Except one of them is not. Bump the wrong bush and the snake is loose. It will chase you. It will find you. And once it starts, it doesn't stop.
Built with Phaser by Orange Heart Creative, the game is currently in development and already playable in the browser. It's a clean example of what Phaser makes possible: a polished, fully playable HTML5 arcade game with pixel art aesthetics, multi-level progression, and a surprise mechanic that keeps every run tense.
What Is Snake in the Grass? A Phaser HTML5 Arcade Game with a Hidden Threat
The gameplay loop is satisfying and stressful in equal measure. You push the mower across a top-down yard, cutting grass tile by tile. Scattered across the level are bushes, each one hiding a creature. Most are harmless. One contains the snake. You don't know which one until you hit it.
A hiss is your only warning. Once the snake locks on, it doesn't stop chasing. Outrun it, outsmart it, or lose a life.
The game ships with six levels and 26 achievements, ranging from speed runs to ghost completions to surviving on your last life. Beat all six and the loop starts again, harder every time. Three lives. Infinite pressure.

How Snake in the Grass Was Built: Phaser, Tiled and Aseprite
Orange Heart Creative built it with Phaser for rendering and game logic, authored the levels in Tiled Map Editor, and pixel-crafted the sprites in Aseprite with AI-assisted cleanup via PixelLab. Music comes from Suno. The full AI assistance is disclosed in the credits.
The game is currently in development. Six levels, 26 achievements, infinite loops, and one snake that will ruin your afternoon.
